Graeme Lugar
As a young teenager, I was passionate about various sports, especially football, which I played at the county level. However, during the summer to focus on fitness, my enjoyment of running led me to attend sessions with Blackheath and Bromley Harriers . Over time, as my passion for football waned, my interest in running and athletics grew stronger. During university, I worked alongside professional athletes, advising them on their training loads, nutrition, and performance. This experience marked the beginning of my running coaching journey, where I started creating training plans for myself and fellow athletes. Since qualifying as a teacher in 2014, I have managed my school's cross-country and athletics teams, with many of the athletes I coached continuing to pursue the sport further. Throughout the years, I have competed in distances ranging from 800m to marathon.
Philosophy
The training plans I offer are tailored to meet the specific needs of each athlete, ensuring they can both enjoy their running and see improvements. I incorporate concepts that I have personally used as an athlete and learned through my coaching education. The knowledge I gained from university further enhances my ability to help athletes reach their full potential by applying evidence-based techniques and strategies. I am convinced that consistent, quality training, combined with a healthy, balanced lifestyle, yields the best results. I believe incorporating a variety of running types, such as repetition, interval, and threshold sessions, not only keeps athletes engaged but also enhances their overall fitness. To support this, I maintain open communication with my athletes and build personal rapport with them.
